Summary. During the watching brief at Ruffles Coachworks, Castle Hedingham, Essex, it was observed that the ground-beam trenches did not impinge on the medieval defensive ditch or any other features of archaeological significance. Modern overburden and disturbed ground were encountered. Only a few of the trenches were dug deep enough to reach natural ground.
