Summary. The site lies in Insulas 15/23 and 24 of the Roman town, and partially within a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Essex SAM no 1). An evaluation in 2006 identified Roman buildings on this site, lying on either side of the Roman gravel street dividing Insulas 15/23 and 24 (CAT Report 372). A watching brief was held in 2007-8 on the removal of the footings of the Central Clinic main buildings, and on other works associated with the construction of new residential accommodation on the site. The gravel surface of the Roman street was located at three points, but otherwise no significant strata were revealed.
