Summary. The site lies within the medieval settlement of Ingatestone and is close to the medieval parish church of St Edmund and St Mary. An archaeological evaluation by trial-trenching was carried out in advance of the construction of a new house to the rear of 23 High Street and this revealed four post-medieval/modern features consisting of two wall foundations, a gravel surface and a pit. They are likely to derive from of an earlier building on the site which fronted onto Stock Lane.
