Summary.
A map of 1724 shows an earlier building on the site of the Victorian Ridley's Brewery. An evaluation by nine trial-trenches on the brewery site and three in arable land to the north found very little of archaeological significance. There were no traces of pre-Victorian brewery infrastructure. Apart from modern features, all that was found was a late medieval pit, and a natural pit which produced a group of prehistoric flints.
