Summary. Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out at The Swan public house and Duck Cottage, Hall Street, Long Melford, Suffolk in advance of the construction of a single-storey rear extension. Despite being located within the Roman and medieval towns, no archaeological horizons dated to these periods were exposed. Two late 18th – 19th/early 20th century pits are probably associated with domestic activity in the rear yards of these Grade II listed 18th-19th century properties.
