Summary.
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out at 1 Eld Lane adjacent to the Roman town wall (a scheduled monument, NHLE no 1003772), at Scheregate in Colchester during the installation of a new interpretation panel. The hole for the panel measured 350mm diameter and 750mm deep and was dug through modern paving and hoggin onto a layer of post-Roman accumulation. The accumulation contained quantities of Roman building material (brick, tile, stone) which was probably debris from the town wall.
