Summary. An archaeological evaluation (16 trial-trenches) was carried out at Rowhedge Wharf, High Street, Rowhedge, Essex in advance of the redevelopment of the site for residential use. The site is located close to East Donyland Hall, a post-medieval moated hall site near to which are a ruined medieval church site, the site of a suspected deserted medieval village, and a 'tumulus' (burial mound). The evaluation revealed no significant archaeological remains. In about 1979, the site was subject to significant ground reduction before being covered by a concrete slab and warehouses, which were removed prior to the evaluation. These groundworks have caused significant modern disturbance over most the site.
