Summary. Archaeological monitoring and recording were carried out at 23 Castle Road, Colchester, Essex in advance of the erection of a conservatory to the rear of the property. The development site is located within the north-eastern corner of the Roman walled town. A Roman dump layer was identified at 0.8m below current ground-level, possibly associated with the remains of a Roman building found during previous investigations next door at 24 Castle Road.
