Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at the former BP petrol filling station, Magdalen Street, Colchester, Essex, during groundworks for side and rear extensions. A well of late 18th- to mid 19th-century date and a wall foundation and a possible culvert or soakaway which formed part of a school constructed at the site in 1851 were uncovered.
