Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 2 Hospital Lane, Colchester, Essex, CO3 3NA, during groundworks for the replacement of a conservatory to the rear of the property. The projected route of the Colchester-London Roman road runs through the site, which lies in a known area of Roman extra-mural occupation to the southwest of the walled town. No archaeological remains were encountered as groundworks did not penetrate beyond modern layers.
