Summary. An archaeological evaluation (one X-shaped trench) was carried out on land south of Doctors Pond, Star Lane, Great Dunmow, Essex, in advance of the construction of a single-storey dwelling. The proposed development site is located within the historic village of Great Dunmow and is surrounded by a large number of listed buildings, dating from at least the 17th century through to the 19th century. Six features were identified in the evaluation trench, including a brick wall visible on the 1st edition OS map, a yard surface and a brick culvert.
